Grandpa & Grandma Prisbrey Christmas presents!

Grandpa Walt & Grandma Jannette did a great job making the kids Christmas presents! The castle is awesome & the kids love it! This is a long video of the kids playing with the toys for the first time (mostly so the grandparents can see the kids' reactions).

Thanksgiving and other photos

We hosted our first Thanksgiving this year. My mom and our friend Tristan were our guests and they had to put up with a vegetarian meal. Which was delicious! Even when I ate meat I was never a huge fan of the turkey. We had stuffing, mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy (which was weird-I still don't know how to solve the gravy problem), sweet potatoes, baked corn, cranberry sauce and lots of pie! Yummy!

This is Corg "smiling" for the camera.

I had a lot of fun decorating for Thanksgiving and setting the table. I think I'll post about that on my crafty blog.

Landon grew a funny mustache. He's shaved it off since these pictures, but it was really funny while it lasted. Every time he'd look at me I'd crack up. I couldn't take anything he said seriously.

I got my hair redone and it's so so so much better. This isn't a very good picture of it, but it's the only one I've got.

It made me remember what a difference having a good stylist makes. They really aren't all made the same! But they're so hard to find. It was so fun having it done and I feel so much prettier now. Thanks mommy for getting it for me!

Snow Day!

A few weeks ago it snowed here. The local schools shut down, but sadly, not the university. So Landon still had to go to work. It stuck around for about 2 days.

Despite how it looks in this picture, Nole hated the snow. Corgan, on the other hand, just LOVED it and kept asking to go outside all day.

In our "backyard" it's always muddy, so with the snow, it was snowy on top, but still muddy underneath. Didn't stop us from tromping around in it several times that day tho! Here's Corgan's first snow angel:

See the mud? Squishy. Once he started laying in the snow, that's all he wanted to do. We had him so bundled up it reminded me of Christmas Story where the little brother can't put his arms down!

And here's our one eyed snowman/fox/bunny/blob? The snow was nice and sticky, but muddy.

This picture is interesting because it illustrates two very different scenarios. Scenario one: You see Corgan wearing his apron because we were just baking bread. You see leaves we picked up on our walk. You see leaves I've traced using leaf shaped cookie cutters so we could color them using the inspiration we brought home from our walk. Happy children, intent on their work. This is the type of home I want. The type of mother I aspire to be. One who fills her children's days with nature, baking, art, joy, togetherness. Then there is Scenario two: What's actually happening. Sure we did that stuff. While one or both of the kids were crying most of the time. In this picture Corgan is about to hit Noles hand with that pencil. They both get really upset, and I get most upset of all. Nothing goes smoothly, and to top it all off, when the bread finally comes out of the oven, it's not even very good! The nerve of that stupid bread! I'm so frustrated we all end up watching TV for the rest of the day because I just can't bring myself to parent anymore. This is how most of our days end lately. At around noon. Pitiful, I know. But I'm still aspiring to be that mom I just described. And I really do think I'll get there. Sometimes. One thing I've learned about parenting is it ebbs and flows. Some days (weeks, months) are close to perfect and others are far from it. But one thing stays constant. Even in all the turmoil, there are moments, like the one above, where everyone is happy, cute, funny. My kids crack me up every single day.

This series of pictures has a similar story. Everyone is happily playing in leaves as I take pictures when suddenly I notice a big streak of yellow smeared down Nole's pants. Yep, he'd crawled thru dog poop. That was quite a drama! Stupid people who don't clean up their dog's crap! Ug! But I got some good shots first!

Face Paint, Fantastic!

We bought some face paint at the store last week and had a fun morning playing with it!

Corgan helped paint my face. Later Landon came home and saw the paints and was smart enough to read the back. It said something along the lines of "don't use the red near your eyes and the blue near your mouth." And we thought, "that's weird" and threw them all away!

Halloween

Corgan has been watching Robinhood lately so I decided the boys could go as Robinhood (Corgan) and Little John or Baby Robinhood (Nole). I actually started making these months ago. I was planning on giving them capes for Christmas before I'd decided on Halloween costumes. So it wasn't that big of a deal to put together the tunics and hats. And I think/hope they'll use these for playing dress up now.

We met some friends downtown Friday for trick or treating at the local businesses.

Halloween night I decided to give them beards and mustaches because I thought it'd be funny.

They mostly ended up rubbing off. But see how cute they still are! It was such a fun night! We met some other friends for dinner and trick or treating in their neighborhood.

We didn't hit many houses, so we didn't have much candy, but Corgan was thrilled with what he got. It was just perfect for him. We have a little Halloween Goblin who stops by our house Halloween night. We leave most of the candy for him, and he leaves a present! This year he left the boys the game Candyland! Corgan likes to play with the guys and Nole likes to eat the cards. A happy Halloween indeed! Now on to Thanksgiving!

My word. It has been way too long since I updated. We have some really great pics and videos of the kids for the last few months but no time to update! Maybe later I'll go back and add them in chronological order because these blogs are such a good way to document the kid's growing up. Anyway, here's what's been going on more recently...

Here's the pic of my blond hair. It was taken a month ago (right after I got professional highlights to fix my home job) so I already have about an inch of dark grow out! It's fun for a change but I don't know if I actually think it looks good. It's more about being different than prettiness I guess.

This is Corgan with balls down his shirt, just like Mommy! Totally his idea. He thought it was pretty hilarious. He is such a character!

And this is just a total Nole face. He's so happy and mellow. Such a joy!

We went camping twice this summer. It was really fun and all the boys just loved it. I can't believe it's taken us this long to go! So the following pictures are from both trips. On was at an official camp site, and the other one was just some random place in a National Forest. Both were beautiful!

For Mother's Day we went out to take some pictures of they boys. They didn't come out as well as I'd hoped. I think I just need a fancy camera. But they're still good, mostly because the kids are just so darn cute, and Landon is so good at pushing the limits of electronic type stuff. He took most of these. The scene:

A typical day in our household. Corgan is playing on the bed. I have Nole on the changing table and have finished the change. However I realize I don't have a fresh diaper cover. I seem to remember seeing one in the most recent clean laundry.

Me: (confident he will understand, unsure if he will decide to comply) Corgan, can you go into the hall and grab one of Nole's diaper covers from the laundry basket?

Corgan: (with what I take to be complete, confident understanding) OK! (holds up one finger) be RIGHT back. (runs away excitedly)

***a few seconds later***

Corgan: (returns with a washcloth in hand and a very proud face) Coagie did it!!

Me: (sigh/laugh) Yes, good job Coagie. (takes Nole off the changing table and goes to get the cover myself)

Nole: Ahhhhh (baby cooing-very cute.)

Well, we're mostly to the point where Corgan understands everything and can always be helpful!

In other news, Corgan has peed in his little potty 3 times in the last 3 days! We're not even potty training yet, it's just worked out that way. Hurray! Maybe we can do some real potty training soon. Any suggestions/tips that have worked for you?

It is so hard to find the time to finish even the smallest project with 2 babies! I've been working on this post for days and you'll see, it's nothing complicated, just a few photos! There's a Bill Cosby joke that if you only have one kid than you aren't a parent. I'm beginning to get that joke :)

Here's Corg propped up on his thrown. We just looked over and he decided to sit up there all by himself.

Nole's Birth Story

I apologize that this is so wordy. It needs to be edited, but I'd rather cuddle my baby than edit my post.

This is the story of Nole's birth:

I want to first point out that Nole is a little trickster. I thought for sure he was a girl, only to get the ultrasound and find out he was a boy. I was also completely convinced he'd be born one week early only to pass that day with no baby. I'll remind you that with Corgan, I accurately predicted his gender and his birthday...

So I'd been having a lot of Braxton-Hicks contractions for a month and a half or so, which is normal for second babies. Sometimes if I was really physically exerting myself they would feel more like real contractions but mostly they were just irritating and made me need to pee. As time passed I was having them more and more and more and started thinking they could turn into early labor and I just wouldn't notice because I was so busy with Corgan and just daily life. I think that's what happened March 1st.

That night (technically the 2nd), at 3:30am I woke up with some contractions that felt like the real thing. I got up and timed them for a while and they were coming regularly (every 6-7 minutes-ish and lasting about 30 seconds) and were painful enough I couldn't sleep through them. I decided I needed rest tho if this was for real, so I managed to doze between them and finished out the night getting a pretty decent rest, all things considered.

By morning I expected them to have picked up, but they didn't really. They were maybe a little closer together, but the timing and intensity was not consistent. So we decided to take Corg to the playground and see if walking around would help pick things up. It seemed to work. They were coming closer together but stopped when I'd stop moving. So I walked in circles for an hour and a half while Corg played. By the time we were leaving I was thinking "this feels like active labor" so I figured I'd make sure it was real then call the midwives. So to test it out I got home and sat down to see if they'd keep up. They didn't. They went from every 5 minutes-ish to every 7, then 10, then even more than 15 minutes apart. This is Nole being tricky! I wasn't sure I'd really been in active labor at all! I was frustrated and tired. So I took a nap for about 2 hours. I still had to wake up for the contractions that stayed between 10-15 minutes apart but otherwise I got some good rest.

I woke up around 3 in the afternoon and came and sat in the living room. Corgan was watching Star Wars so I watched with him. The contractions sort of picked up but were so all over the place. Sometimes 2 minutes apart and really weak, sometimes 10 minutes apart and stronger, and everywhere in between! I had no idea what to think. With Corgan I had a 12 hour labor so I had thought I'd have this baby by 3:30 for sure. See, Nole is tricky! My contractions with Corg were like clock work. Landon could tell me when I was about to have one and how long it would last to the "T". That's the kind of labor I was waiting for to really know "this is it! now I'm in labor." That never happened.

At about 4:45 we decided to have the midwife come over to check on me to see if I was doing any real work at all. The contractions continued to be all over the place. By this time they were hard enough I'd have to stop what I was doing and breathe thru them, but then I could go back to playing bejewled with Landon. Which is what I was doing at 5:00 when my water broke. I had noticed that it made my contractions feel better if I pushed just a little with each one. Not like real baby pushing out pushes, just a little pressure. I think that's what broke my water. With Corgan I had to have my water broken and my mom had to with all 3 of us so that's what I was expecting. Shouldn't I know by now that anything I expect was going to come out the total opposite?

Anyway, it was a good thing the midwives were already almost there cuz once the water broke, I pretty much felt like pushing. Corgan was waking up from his nap, the midwives were arriving and I was trying to figure out what on earth was going on with my body. I didn't trust the urges. It seemed way too soon. I barely even felt like I'd had any active labor, and no transition at all. I felt totally there and sane. That is NOT how I went into pushing with Corgan. But the first midwife walked in and she could see I was ready. She said if I could, it'd be better if I could not push until she got set up-she had just arrived after all-but if I had to, I could push. I managed to wait. I also wanted Corgan to go upstairs to be with the neighbors before I let it all out, Corgan went upstairs and got quickly settled. And then I started pushing. The second midwife got there after I'd already started. It still sucked to push. And I still didn't trust the urge until the baby was almost out. It went a lot faster than Corgan's birth. I pushed about 45 minutes. And then I had my baby.

So that was Nole's birth. Surprises at every corner. The biggest surprise was how easy it all was. Then he arrived and is just perfect and I feel so great! I feel so lucky to have had such a great experience! Stay tuned for more pictures and hopefully some videos!

Nole was born today at 6:24 pm! He weighs 8 lbs 2 oz & has a head full of dark hair which you can't see in these pictures due to his hats. His name is Nole Oliver Prisbrey, but the spelling & the middle name are subject to change.

Corg got this Star Wars coloring book for Christmas so today we whipped it out and started coloring. He's telling me all about what's going on in these pictures. I didn't even know he could say Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin! (which is what he's saying, by the way) And in case you were wondering, he did hurt his head at the end. He has a little red mark :(

PS. Check out his haircut. It's his first haircut ever! It breaks my heart, I'm still not sure if I should have done it, but his hair was in his face so much!

Corgan has got good at assisted walking! Unfortunately for our knees he's very excited about his new mobility & loves endlessly exploring the apartment!

Corgan got a vaccination and was feeling really bad. So we did what always makes us feel better after a lousy day and gave him some chocolate. As you can see, he really loved it!

Corgan's first time in a swimming pool! I really thought he'd like it because he really likes kicking around in the bath, but he didn't seem to like the pool very much. I don't think he knew what to think of it.
